Born in Cirebon, 31 January 1943. During his time in the high school in 1960-1963, Ahadiat was active in Sanggar Seniman or the Artists' Studio at the ex-house oh the painter Kartono in Lembah Siliwangi (the valley of Siliwangi), under the tutelage of the painters But Mochtar, Srihadi Soedarsono, A.D. Pirous, and Adrin Kahar. Ahadiat finished his study at the Departement of Art, Bandung Institute of Technology in 1973, and had his doctoral degree from the same institution.

Besides teaching at the Faculty of Art and Design, Bandung Institute of Technology, Ahadiat also works as interior and exhibition system designer, both at national and international levels. Together with his wife, Rini Chairin Hayati who is also a graduate from the Faculty of Art and Design, Bandung Institute of Technology, Ahadiat also developed craft designs in various places in Indonesia, especially for wooden, earthenware, and bamboo crafts.

He has often been asked to contribute in seminars and researches in that field. For his doctoral dissertation, Ahadiat analyzed local materials and techniques as the guiding elements for the form-creation of an artifact.From 2000 to today, Ahadiat has been intensively active in making ceramic works in a small studio at his home.
