An Art Director by profession in the advertising field in Malaysia, he expands his imagination from 2D to 3D. Being creative with clay has always been a passion of his since a very young age dabbling with air dry paper clay. He started making stonewares, earthern and Raku wares only in 2003. He has obtained tutoring from local potter Yeow Seng Cheah and foreign potter Margaret Fenn now residing in Malaysia and traveled to Fitzroy Falls, Australia to pot with Neil Boughton. Neil is a potter who currently does luster wares. While there, he experienced a different raku method with luster glazes. He also attended Ceramics Conventions at Gulgong Australia both in 2004 and 2007. He is greatly inspired by Daphne Corregan, Steven Heinemann & Alan Peascod.
In April 2008, he traveled to Australia and did his first artist in residency at Quixotica: an artist space inspired and set up by Rowley Drysdale who is a distinguished potter and artist from Queensland. James developed new ideas and direction for his creation and also experienced firing an Ogama kiln.
He sees life through intricate simplicity, noticing the seemingly insignificant but profound aspects to translate them into his work. He believes it is this simplicity that allows his curiosity and imagination to wonder freely, inspiring him as he expounds thoughts into clay creations.
